The role:

The Development Engineer will be a key member of the management team, capable of innovative technical problem solving whether working alone or in a team environment. They will play a lead role in the R&D and engineering department, ensuring that customers and production operations are fully supported, improving customer satisfaction, service levels & efficiency.

The successful candidate will manage the design, development, testing, acceptance and sustainment of applications and products, ensuring that resource requirement is defined in order to support the company’s product portfolio in a challenging (eventually world-wide) market.

* To ensure the successful, cost-effective introduction of new independent living and rehabilitation products (often with a pneumatic and electronic aspect) in accordance with pre-planned commercially acceptable deadlines and budgetary controls.

* Management and control of all technical programs and projects, including preparation and presentation of detailed plans to communicate progress and results effectively

* Development of conceptual requirements, specifications and project plans

* Designing, implementing and testing new applications and products

* Configuration management in accordance with company requirements

* Testing of all products to satisfy performance and approval requirements

* Setting and maintaining engineering standards

* Acting as Design Authority for the company

* Developing the company’s reputation for engineering excellence thereby encouraging new business

* Technical project management, including developing and delivering to specification, statements of work, schedules and budgets

* Delivering consistent output of the highest quality and in line with industry best-practice

* Maintenance of the Design Record

* Management and control of critical engineering assets, including coordination with other functions to ensure that updated or new company technologies/capabilities and investment match new and emerging perceived customer requirements

Person Profile:

Required Skills

* Demonstrated technical capability and acknowledged reputation in the industry

* Proven ability to resolve multi-disciplinary engineering problems

* The ideal candidate will be fully conversant with current engineering theory, standards and practice, including modeling and simulation and the design tools used to deliver complex engineering solutions. He or she will also be familiar with software development to meet safety critical requirements.

* Strong desire to maintain contemporary technical knowledge

* Effective collaboration with other experts

* Pneumatics

* Portable equipment

Personal characteristics:

* Highly self-motivated and effective interpersonal skills with a flexible approach to problem-solving, able to prioritise and fulfil conflicting demands on resources

* Capable of working both alone and as part of a small multi-disciplined team

* Enthusiastic with the ability to learn quickly

* Flexible and able to prioritise tasks

* Effective time-management skills

* Willing to give long-term commitment to the company
