We are looking to hire a Head of Category Management – Direct Materials to join Smiths Interconnect in Elstree on a permanent basis. The role can also be based out of another Smiths site in the South East (Slough, Ashford, etc.).
The incumbent will lead the development, communication and implementation of category strategies to secure the best total value for the goods and services of Smiths Interconnect purchases worldwide.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Lead a highly strategic, global, Category Management team and champion the global strategic procurement process for all categories
* Support, develop and mentor the global category Managers in the creation, communication and execution of category strategies
* Lead and/or guide all supplier selection activities to ensure these are in line with Category strategies and fully support the business needs
* Develop supplier reduction goals and drive the implementation through the execution of category strategies
* Develop and motivate the Category Management team and deliver all people actions in the appropriate timeframes
* Develop, implement and maintain responsibility for the business relationships with suppliers though a consistent and robust Supplier Relationship Management process that delivers strong performance from our key suppliers
* Lead the development and execution of cost reduction/profit improvement plans with suppliers that achieve/exceed the annual cost improvement target and which are reflected in the Smiths Interconnect P&L
* Participate in the development and execution of Global Procurement policies, processes, procedures, training, performance measures and systems
* Maintain current knowledge industry and market factors affecting assigned commodities, to allow for effective discussion and negotiating with technical personnel both within Smiths Interconnect and the supplier network
Required Skills and Experience:
* Degree – ideally within Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or Economics
* Significant experience within Procurement and Supply Management; with a proven track record of developing and implementing global Category Strategies within global organization
* Highly skilled in Supplier Relationship Management – including negotiating and influencing
* Experienced in Cost management practices, with history of delivery against cost reduction targets
* Ability to identify process improvements and embed these into Category Management and SRM processes
* Strong personal drive and motivation; focused on delivering results through continuous improvement
* Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) or equivalent experience
