To assist the Bridges & Structures Manager in the management and maintenance of the Council’s Highway Structures, Corporate bridges and Multi Storey Car Park (MSCP) Assets to ensure they are fit for purpose and safe for users. The role requires the identification of defects and maintenance requirements from the on-going inspection programmes and take forward of maintenance schemes from concept to implementation on site. Role is primarily responsible for inspection of structures, subsequent planning and design of maintenance & improvement works, including site supervision and contract administration. Role may have opportunities to assist in other highway disciplines within the Highway Asset Team, e.g. Carriageway & Drainage.

Other Key Features of the role

• A mix of office based and site work.

• The majority of work is performed outside involving exposure to all weather conditions which may be in disagreeable and in unpleasant surroundings/conditions.

• The majority of work will be undertaken on or adjacent to the public highway and Construction sites being exposed to live traffic, and may involve working at height, or close to flowing water.

• Work requires physical effort regularly in awkward postures. For example, undertaking inspections in difficult or restrictive locations, and need to access sites over fences and uneven ground.

• Contact with the public may occasionally be confrontational.
