My client, a well established Law Firm based in Chancery Lane, dealing with a number of practice areas, are providing an opportunity for a Payroll Assistant to join their finance division, needing only 1 to 2 years Payroll Experience in the Legal Sector or within a Professional Services Background.

Responsibilities / Duties

* Day to day processing and administration of staff payroll.

* Fully responsible for the two subsidiary payrolls from start to finish.

* Responsible for calculations and administration of payments and deductions through the payroll for PAYE/GAYE/Pensions/SMP/SAP/SSP/SHPP/holiday/allowances/overtime/bonuses/childcare vouchers/student loans/postgraduate loans/staff loans etc.

* Processing joiners and leavers, setting up new employees on payroll, leaver calculations.

* Producing and distributing the monthly payslips for all payrolls.

* Processing payroll adjustments – Parental Leave, cycle scheme, childcare vouchers, pension, gym, season ticket loans.

* Dealing with individual employee payroll queries and answering in a reasonable timescale.

* Creation and posting of monthly payroll journals.

* Ensure integrity of payroll system, data, and functionality and ensuring relevant system updates are made.

* Maintenance of key payroll reconciliations and control accounts.

* Ensuring payment of PAYE/NIC for all payrolls.

* Year-end payroll procedures, preparation of P60's & P11D’s and payment of Class 1A NIC.

* PSA analysis for the 2 subsidy companies.

* Reviewing existing processes and identifying areas for improvement.

* Proactively liaise with Human Resources to identify payroll changes, and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations as well as internal business procedures.

* Keep up to date with payroll legislation and inform colleagues of changes impacting the business.

* Liaise with staff, colleagues, HMRC, and the firm's tax advisers on all relevant payroll issues including earning, benefits in kind and any other issues.

Skills / Experience required

* Significant knowledge and experience of UK income tax and national insurance regulations.

* Excellent working knowledge of payroll software, preferably Open Pay but not essential.

* Law firm experience preferable, but will consider someone from a relevant professional service background.

* Excel/spreadsheet working to a high standard.

* Excellent interpersonal skills.

* Excellent attention to detail skills.

* Aderant experience.
