Sub Agent – Bridges & Structures

£40,000 - £45,000 + package

South East London

“An unrivalled opportunity for an ambitious Engineer looking for rapid progression into senior / project management working in a technically challenging environment but with the offering of a learning experience not easily gained elsewhere”.

A business committed to the improvement of the UK’s transportation/infrastructure structureswhich carry road and rail transportation over land and water are looking to add to their existing team of professional engineers. With a proud track record and a core business of delivering bridge projects, whether Grade II listed or less iconic structures and incorporated as a private limited company in 2005 this is a business proud of their reputation for delivering high quality specialist sub-contracting services in all areas of structural steelwork engineering within the built environment; including the refurbishment of road, rail and marine structures and fabrication and erection of miscellaneous metalwork to heavy steel structures.

With an experienced management and technical team coupled with dedicated resources and expertise in bridgeworks and strengthening of metallic and composite structures the business is now looking to add to the team as part of their succession plans for the future. Alongside design partners, they are working to provide bespoke design and buildable solutions for complex refurbishment, fabrication and temporary works installation.

This role has come about due to continued growth, increasing workload and succession planning for the future.

You will report directly into one of the Operational Directors, whilst enjoying a level of autonomy which will enable you to gain exposure to new challenges, benefiting you professionally.

The contracts are varied, technically challenging at times and the business can offer a learning experience not easily gained elsewhere.

What can you bring to this role?

Having a qualification and technical background in a relevant field such as structural or civil engineering in the infrastructure sector you will utilise your existing skills and experience by offering innovative design and buildability solutions to the business whilst your ambition to make a career in for yourself in bridge and structural steel installation, maintenance and refurbishment is also a vital ingredient.

You should be able to demonstrate an ability to learn and progress quickly with solid skills as an Engineer or Sub Agent consisting of the usual site management, paperwork and health & safety responsibilities.

To add serious value to the business and this role however, skills in the following areas would be a distinct benefit demonstrating your ‘all-rounder’ skills and that you are an up and coming start and industry hot prospect:

Commercial astuteness – through experience of supporting Quantity Surveyors and Commercial teams.

Design software knowledge and understanding (CAD for example) – working with design teams on both permanent and temporary works designs

IT literate – production of site paperwork including but not limited to – RAMS, ITP’s, WPP, report writing etc. and competent user of packages such as Microsoft Excel to produce working formulas.

What will you be doing as?

This role can be considered a fast track into Project/Senior Management as key figure in the future of the business. Whilst learning the ropes to become a future senior manager, you will be involved in the day to day Engineering and Site Management of an ever-growing portfolio of structural installation, maintenance and refurbishment projects with your day to day responsibility being:

Site management and oversight of project delivery

Work package plans

Method statements

Risk assessments

Inspection test plans

Temporary works coordination

Permits

The salary on offer is between £40,000 - £45,000 + package (dependant on level of experience and what you can offer by way of existing skills and future contributions to the overall growth and success of the business.
