Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client has been established for more than a century and is renowned globally as a market leader in their specialist field. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are urgently seeking to recruit a highly self-motivated and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their established and highly successful global engineering team.

Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager and based near Coventry, the successful candidate will ideally demonstrate previous experience gained in the design of custom cooling or heat exchange applications and will become part of a team tasked with developing bespoke cooling solutions for a range of industrial diesel engine or similar heavier engineering applications.

Working in an often technically varied and pressurised environment, the successful candidate will create and oversee mechanical designs using 3D/2D CAD software programs including SolidWorks 2018 and AutoCAD for air-cooled and water-cooled heat exchanger solutions, and utilise FEA software to design and optimize component elements.

You will also establish product costs by reference to price lists, standard cost data, bought in component costs and liaison with costing and purchasing departments and check contract review documents on receipt of an order before producing pre-production engineering release documents for subsequent processing leading to design and manufacture.

In addition to the core mechanical design engineer activities, you will also be involved in providing support to other departments including the sales team, ensuring that their proposals are submitted in a timely and professional manner and designs are completed on a “right first time” basis and within required timescales.

To be considered for this varied and challenging mechanical design engineer role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be qualified to at least HND level or above in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline and demonstrate at least 2 years’ experience gained within a relevant industrial design environment.

Whilst previous experience in the design of cooling solutions or heat exchangers will prove distinctly advantageous, essentially the successful candidate will possess comprehensive skills in the use of Solid Works 2018 and other 3D/2D CAD software and AutoCAD and will demonstrate excellent communication skills at all levels and a meticulous approach to attention to detail.
