Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Sous Chef? Are you able to step up and run the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef? Are you looking for career progression in a growing company? If so, then we may have the perfect role for you.

We are urgently looking for an enthusiastic and self motivated Sous Chef to join this team based near Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. Working in a busy retail environment, the kitchen provides the catering for a high volume cafe/restaurant as well as functions and events.

In this role, you will support the Head Chef in the running of the kitchen as well as have an input to menu creation. You will assume responsibility for the kitchen and food in the absence of the Head Chef ensuring compliance, due diligence as well as temperature checks. Additional duties will involve ordering, stock take, training and management of the kitchen team as well as ensuring a high standard of food is produced.

The small team work together so the ability to work within a team as well as use of initiative is essential. All food is freshly prepared and of a high standard so the ability to work with fresh ingredients is required.

Hours of work:

The site is a 7 day operation so this will be a 5/7 day role (including evenings and weekends), 40 hours per week - all straight shifts.

The ideal candidate:

*a minimum of 2 years experience within a professional kitchen

*ideally hold C&G 706 1/2 or NVQ equivalent

*hold Level 2 Food Hygiene

*able to work under pressure and remain calm and rational

*be able to produce good food using fresh and seasonal ingredients

*have a basic understanding of budget control and costings

*be able to step up to Head Chef's role in their absence and undertake their duties - ordering, stock take etc

*be genuinely passionate about food and service

*be a good team player and have strong communication skills

*be flexible and willing with a positive can do attitude

*be able to work 5/7 days (including weekends) on a rota system

*have own transport due to location of site or be local to area
