The Role:

Dematic has an immediate need for an Controls Engineer (Associate) in our Global Project Engineering group at our Orange, CA location. The preferred candidate will have 1-2 years related experience, including planning, specification, and implementation of engineering design projects. This role would report into an Engineering Manager. You have the ability to provide superior customer service to a variety of industry verticals: food & beverage, apparel, e-commerce and more.


Hardware Design

Design basic flow control area (such as Pick Module or Slapper). Design includes schematics and area layout w/ proper device placement.

Search for parts in SAP and/or the Materials Search Engine.

Evaluate photo eye positions based upon an understanding of the photo eye application guide.

Able to perform AutoCADE/equivalent work with guidance.

Generate IO list.

Understand e-stop application and zoning.

Complete Order Entry process.

Modify existing Description of Operation to describe area – flow control and annunciations.

Complete Full Load Amp (FLA) chart.

Software and Emulation

Outline program file structure, software requirements, and identify required AOIs/DFBs for a basic flow control systems (Pick Mod or Slapper).

Reserve Emulation Lab time and submit proper documents to request an emulation to be built.

Able to emulate a basic flow control systems (Pick Mod or Slapper).


Assist in the start-up, commissioning and testing of material handling systems.

What We Are Looking For:


Typically a 4 year BSEE degree or equal in a related discipline is required.

Knowledge and Experience:

Demonstrates a good grasp of knowledge and principles of field of specialization and applies through successful completion of assignments. Successfully applies knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization. Typically 2-5 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above. Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience, where applicable


Travel:  Travel can range anywhere from 25% - 40% depending on the project and is typically on weekends and possibly over some holidays.

Direction of Others:

May provide general guidance or train lower level support staff.

Key Working Relationships:

Primarily intra-organizational contacts and some external contacts.
