Our client has a culture of innovation, strategic R&D, and the know-how to research technology for the future of the cable industry. Based in Louisville, CO, the Wired Technologies team in our Research and Development organization is seeking a Principal Architect who shares our passion for innovation and thrives in a delivery-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will be a technologist with strong technical leadership and communication skills, with applied expertise in Optical Communications. Experience working with one or more of the following is highly desirable: optical communications, radio frequency (RF) communications, optical burst receivers, optical polarization, QAM, QPSK, and system architecture design.

Our Principal Architect will participate in a team of highly qualified and dedicated individuals who take pride in designing and introducing new optical communication solutions and shepherding the cable industry toward an optical future. You will have a mindset toward innovation and rapid execution, capable of delivering innovative new concepts, designs, tests, and strategic initiatives for cable operators, and participating in work conducted by other industry bodies.


* Provide technical leadership for the expanding optical communications initiatives for the cable industry

* Collaborate with technology partners to facilitate development and industry contributions of new optical solutions.

* Interact and collaborate with optical, HFC, and operations experts at our member and vendor companies.

* Create innovative solutions for next generation optical communications.

* Work as an individual contributor and technical collaborator leading research and strategic efforts across cross-functional teams.


* Masters of Science, Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or closely related field, plus 7-10 years of experience in FIBER OPTICS, OPTICAL NETWORKING, OPTICAL AND RF MODULATION, and DATA NETWORKING ARCHITECTURES.

* Experience with physical layer OPTICAL TRANSMISSION systems, ROSA/TOSA/BOSA, Mach-Zehnder modulators, burst receivers, optical polarization, link impairments and link power/OSNR budget estimation, is required.

* Experience with different MODULATION FORMATS, optical DIRECT DETECTION, COHERENT DETECTION, and the fundamental DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING (DSP)ALGORITHMS such as polarization demultiplexing and clock/carrier recovery, is required.

* Experience with optical test equipment such as OPTICAL POWER METERS, FUSION SPLICERS, OPTICAL SPECTROMETERS, optical spectrum analyzer, ARBITRARY WAVEFORM GENERATOR, SAMPLING/REAL TIME OSCILLOSCOPE and OTDR equipment, is required.

* System knowledge of one or more access network technologies such as EPON, GPON, WDM PON, radio over fiber, RFoG, analog HFC, and POINT TO POINT OPTICAL ETHERNET, OPTICAL FRONTHAUL/BACKHAUL is desired.

* Strong written and verbal COMMUNICATIONSKILLS, with the specific ability to speak to various technical and management levels.

* PROACTIVE, COLLABORATIVE and CREATIVE approach to INNOVATION, TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT and CONSENSUS facilitation to influence optimal project results.

* Excellent TIME and TASK management, and inter-personal skills.

* Willingness to travel when required.
