Manpower UK is recruiting on behalf of our client who is one of the country’s largest independent suppliers of office equipment – and document solutions.

They have a newly-created, full-time permanent role for a hands-on Facilities Technician, based at the Edinburgh HQ office, and with occasional travel to other branches in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.

Their facilities, environmental and safety compliance requirements continue to grow, and need someone with practical ability from an electrical, mechanical or facilities background to support the busy Compliance and Facilities Manager. You will also need to be a competent Microsoft Office user in order to ensure the upkeep and accurate and timely reporting of all maintenance systems across the branches.

In this role you will act as the first point of contact for staff with FM requests and you will assist in general smaller building repairs where a contractor is not required and tasks to help the smooth running of the branches.

Key skills & competencies

* Practical ability in electrical, mechanical, facilities or building field(s)
* Demonstrable knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, processes and working practices
* Competent user of Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel and Outlook
* Minimum of one years’ experience in a similar role
* The ability to work in a team
* A self-motivated individual with a well-rounded personality
* Good Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
* Someone with a logical approach to problem solving

* Proven to be trustworthy and reliableKey Duties

* Maintain the fabric of the building and surrounding environment, all fixtures and fittings Internal & external
* Responsible for contractors visiting facility and recording and updating of all reports on the maintenance schedules
* Carry out routine maintenance on a regular basis in line with legislation and company requirements, keeping within budget.
* Comply with ISO14001 and ISO9001 standards and Health, Safety & Environmental legislation
* 1st point of contact for staff to log Facilities requests:

* to log jobs onto reactive FM system
* to investigate, repair if possible and if not to call in contractors, arrange quotes
* to oversee work/ liaise with contractors
* to close down jobs in FM system

* Ensure the Edinburgh and branch FM maintenance system is up-to-date via monthly reviews and taking remedial action where required

* Visit branches to carry out in-house maintenance work not requiring specialist contractor

* Procure janitorial and catering supplies for Edinburgh and review costs for other branches

* Provide facilities services & cover for events – furniture, parking, catering, and liaise with IT

* Issue/ procure keys and fobs and record in electronic keys register

* Carry out regular FM/ HSE checks for Edinburgh as per maintenance schedule
* Carry out weekly tests – fire/CO/ WC alarm, pipe flushing

* Assist with risk assessments and DSE assessments

* Assist with archiving – destroying redundant archives, updating archives register and moving documents to secure archive areas

Main Benefits/ Conditions

* Salary dependent on experience
* Main hours: 8.30-5.00 Monday to Friday (37.5-hour week)
* Annual leave of 33 days per annum, including public holidays, rising to 36 days after 2 years’ service and 38 days after 5 years
