We require a Production Unit Manager based at our Oldbury Site. In this role you will report to the Site Operations Manager and Manage a team of circa 25. Our Global Business Unit is part part of the Technology Solutions division and predominantly produces Phosphorus based chemicals for use in the Oil & Gas, Industrial Commodities and Agro markets.
Job Overview and Responsibilities
As Production Unit Manager you will be responsible for the day to day running of a chemical production area of a top tier COMAH site (Control of major accidents hazards). As Production Unit Manager you will manage a medium sized team of 25 and handle day to day HSE issues, people management, production output, maintenance costings and improvements. You will also focus on the future strategy of the site and to meet the changing needs of the business and customers.
Key responsibilities include:
* Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organisations/site mission, specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organisational planning.
* Direct line management of production operators. This includes determining work schedules, approving committed hours usage and OT, time off, new hire training and ongoing necessary training.
* First line management of the area including working with planning, maintenance, and engineers to ensure production output meets product/quality specifications and customer due dates.
* Support and drive key manufacturing initiatives in cost reduction, efficiency improvement, quality and customer delivery
* Provide communication on a regular basis to Operations Manager, and Employees regarding department objectives.
* Promote the improvement of HSE standards across the site and it’s activities in order to reduce year on year targets and objectives i.e the number of accidents, incidents and unwanted events
* Implement, monitor and review training and development plans.
Education and Experience
* Ideally you will be qualified to degree level in a relevant technical discipline preferably Chemical Engineering or Industrial Chemist Engineering.
* Demonstrable experience of working on a top tier COMAH site
* An ILM qualification would be desirable but not essential.
* Additional qualification(s) in Health and Safety (IOSH/NEBOSH) would be desirable.
Skills
To be successful in this role you need to have
* A proven track record in people management skills and experience of managing large teams preferably gained in a unionised environment.
* Experience gained in a manufacturing environment demonstrated through a supervisory or engineering role in the chemical process industry incorporating batch and continuous processes.
* Excellent leadership and organisational skills to manage, motivate and develop people
* Exceptional Influencing skills to ensure buy-in and facilitating co-operation between departments.
* Experience of continuous improvement methods and problem solving techniques.
* Good working knowledge and experience of developing and driving a Safety Culture
* Experience of implementation and maintaining behavioural safety.
