Role Overview

My client, a leading energy provider is looking to engage a Technical Project Support Engineer to join them on a 12-month contract at their location at Hinkley Point B power station. It is important to highlight following an initial period of familiarisation you will be required to work for multiple weeks consistently away from the chosen base site (assisting in the deployments at other sites).

In order to apply for this position, you will be required to undergo SC Clearance and a drug and alcohol test.


As the Technical Project Support Engineer, you will carry out 2 roles initially working as part of the Hinkley Point B Nuclear Site IT Services team with a primary focus of supporting Generation staff working on site. Reporting to the Nuclear Site IT Services Team Leader, you will monitor and resolve IT incidents assigned to the support team in accordance with the Service Level Agreements. You will also work with the Site IT team to help manage and deliver IT services via service requests.

During the Generation Windows 10 upgrade project, the specialist will form part of the WIN10 project team supporting migration activities around the UK. Based in the south of England (managed from Hinkley point and Barnwood head office) you will be expected to travel to power station locations around the south of England, however, may be asked to travel to a location anywhere in the UK.

Principal Accountabilities: Principal Accountabilities

1 Ensure a safe working environment within Nuclear Site IT Services on a station
Resolve local IT issues and deliver additional IT related services (non-plant) to satisfy the IT Service Level Agreements
3. Maintain the local end user computing hardware environment (desktop, laptop, print/scan, peripherals) on a station
4. Maintain station based IT infrastructure in conjunction with centrally based resolving teams and hardware maintainers
5. Monitor, and challenge where necessary, the quality and consistency of IT services delivered to Generation (Nuclear Operations)
6. Deliver system health through a systematic approach to housekeeping, systems administration and support
7. Approval of 'change' to IT systems supporting Generation (Nuclear Operations) for the station
8. Working in support of significant station activities, such as outages
9. Participating in delivering the IT requirement for station projects, and providing site-based assistance for centrally managed projects
10. Support the Windows 10 upgrade project assisting in migration activities on nuclear power stations across the UK (primarily the south of England)

Experience Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications:

Experience in IT service delivery and operational support in large, heterogeneous environments

It is essential that you are competent and experienced in the support of MS Windows desktop operating systems, MS Office suite of products and MS Windows server fundamentals such as Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Print. The candidate should also have a good understanding of the installation and support of peripheral devices. Knowledge and/or experience of LAN networking in a Cisco environment would be advantageous.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate confidence in problem-solving, have excellent customer facing skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. You must be a dynamic individual with high standards and integrity and be a good communicator.

The Site IT Specialist must be a suitably qualified and experienced IT professional with a good understanding of generalist IT subjects in order to satisfy the requirements of local IT service delivery as well as be capable of efficiently responding and resolving local IT faults on site.

The IT Specialist role on a nuclear station is varied and can include working on areas outside of the immediate post purpose where there is a technical aspect to the requirement. The role exists to ensure all aspects of IT related work on site from first line IT support to large scale project delivery are carried out efficiently in order to reduce distractions to nuclear staff by maintaining operational focus and nuclear safety.

A qualification or certification in any of the following areas is not essential but would be highly beneficial: Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Prince2
