About Our Client:

Our client are a leading provider of top quality, niche and rare fresh food products. They pride themselves on offering the best possible seasonal produce to the customers, who include some of the top London hotels and restaurants. They know fine food, they live and breath the food service scene in London and love supplying the top chefs with the finest ingredients possible to go into truly spectacular dishes.

About the Job:

This role is all about buying and the supply of the best fresh produce available at any given time. You will utilise your knowledge of growers, growing seasons, supply chains and quality, niche fresh produce to deliver the finest products at the best price. You will be able to build lasting relationships with growers and suppliers to ensure continued supply, whilst also focusing on commercials and being able to negotiate the best possible price. You will buy as many lines as possible directly but also have free reign to buy something a little different or special if and when you see it. There will be lots of data and forecasts at your disposal to know what to buy, when and how much. You will work closely with the Stock Control and Commercial teams to ensure the smooth supply of the products needed to fulfil orders and enable business growth.

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge of fresh produce. You will need to understand what's in season, what is good, what the best quality looks like and where to source it from. You will be commercially minded and be able to negotiate good prices, whilst maintaining strong relationships with growers and suppliers. You will have the flexibility to travel to meet suppliers on occasion and visit the likes of Milan, Sicily, Holland etc. You will be a strong team player that works well in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

Minimum Requirements:

Due to the complex and niche areas of this role, in order to be considered, as a minimum, you will need to have a background in buying and fresh produce. You will need to be able to show that you understand seasonal fresh produce and your ability to source and buy it for competitive prices. You will need to be a strong communicator and relationship builder and be able to act in a very fast paced environment.
