Job description

1) Occupational Summary:

The Commodity Manager (CM) working in conjunction with related supply

chain functions will create processes for the on-going selection,

assessment, and measurement of a global strategic supply base. The CM

will also work with the Quality to continuously improve product and

service performance, ensure good manufacturing practices are utilized.

The CM will focus on commodity strategy and supplier rationalization

by analyzing market trends, drives to achieve business requirements

both current and future, keeps informed of advanced manufacturing

technology developments, and which suppliers (current or new) are able

to bring the best products or services to SSUSA at the lowest price

without any degradation in quality, delivery, and customer service.

2) Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions):

A) Identify, establish, negotiate, and maintain agreements with a

global supply base to support SSUSA businesses with products or

services, purchased directly or indirectly, for the manufacture or

assembly of products sold to our customers ensuring that all customer

flow down requirements are included.

B) Maintain all Long Term Agreements (LTA) contracts to ensure that

renewals and other date sensitive requirements are met and communicate

the status to all SSUSA locations.

C) Ensure that adequate technical information is present on contract

documents to support desired product receipts. May include requests

for specification or drawing changes, and attaching additional

requirements to item master which will flow out onto the purchase


D) Create, initiate, and analyze all Requests for Information (RFI),

Request for Quote (RFQ), Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Long Term

Agreements (LTA), Pricing or Service Agreements, and other strategic

procurement initiatives with suppliers or commodities shared across

SSUSA and other SAFRAN companies that meet the commodity and supply

base rationalization strategy along with company and corporate cost


E) Identify and establish a supply base that can support engineering

prototype and development work on all new programs.

F) Develop a commodity strategy that identifies which existing

suppliers are preferred, essential, or to be de-sourced along with

where opportunity suppliers may exist and the strategy to bring them

on-board to include government business classifications and keep such

records for audit requirements.

G) Analyze commodities and markets for trends in pricing and supply to

make recommendations and engage in actions that will protect

SSUSA/SAFRAN and improve the supply position without any adverse

financial impact.

H) Maintain the Supplier Profile to reflect the latest and most

accurate information.

Job requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

Related experience is required; five years of prior

purchasing/sourcing experience in positions of progressing

responsibility with specific experience managing direct spend of

textile based commodities.

The following are preferred:

* Textile Fabrication; specifically, this position is seeking

expertise with fabrication of textiles (cutting, sewing,

laminating & injection molding equipment / processes) , pattern &

drawing development, (low volume, highly complex dress covers,

cushions & restraint belts)

* Direct material sourcing (Textile Mill) ) & procurement

experience utilizing global supply chains for products/components

generally comprised of foam (memory foam, high density foam &

specialty foams), leathers, synthetics, fabrics and adhesives.

* Ability to map supply chains and overcome obstacles, both

internal and external, by presenting facts to support projects

value to the business. Work with internal stakeholders to overcome


* Strong background in building strategic relationships with

suppliers and internal customers or stakeholders

* Ability to work without close supervision; self-directed

Qualification Requirements:

A) Education and Experience:

i) Requires a Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics,

Business management or related discipline or 6 years related

experience in lieu of Bachelors level degree to meet the education

requirement. OR Requires an Associates degree in a related business

management or related engineering discipline and 3 years related

experience in lieu of Bachelors level degree to meet the education


ii) In addition to meeting the education requirement, requires an

additional 5 years experience working in aerospace or other low

volume and highly design controlled organization in a Supply Chain

capacity, or Project Management with Transformation role, with

increasing levels of experience/responsibility including global

sourcing and contract negotiation for various commodities to include

but not limited to raw materials, plastics, formed, stamped, or

machined details, soft goods, MRO and service providers, capitol

purchases, freight and other products as identified.

iii) CSCP/CPM or other accredited professional certification


iv) Green Belt Certification preferred.

Complementary description

I) Develop policies and procedures on the preparation of and review of

contracts, bids, proposals, and supplier agreements for legal

correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications to

include payment/shipping terms and other commercial requirements.

J) Develop commodity pricing reduction goals and strategies that are

in line with company and corporate targets, product margins, and sales


K) Conduct on-site technical evaluations/assessments on suppliers and

sub-tiers, as necessary, to ensure suppliers have the

processes/procedures/systems to meet SSUSA and customer

specifications, requirements, and approvals (ASL).

L) Assist in the assignment of supplier status based upon the Safran

Status Pyramid and transition of work to preferred suppliers.

M) Work with the SQE function to prevent or resolve quality issues

that could impact business growth, disrupt supply chain, and drive

supplier development between business units (Gainesville and


N) Participate in supplier sourcing reviews for new and existing

programs together with related sub functions and assist in the

development of criteria for RFI/RFQ packages to ensure that all

quality elements are covered and contained.

O) Link spend analysis, compliance tracking, sourcing execution,

commodity strategy, and supplier performance to ensure greater control

and secure savings.

P) Work with applicable sub functions to develop / optimize supplier

qualification and assessment criteria.

Specificity of the job

Q) Review monthly supplier performance metrics and work with the SD &

SQE sub functions on a strategy and actions for any supplier not

meeting the supplier performance criteria for SSUSA.

R) Communicate with the supply base on production rate changes, new

program introductions, and business awards to assess their rate

readiness and to develop contingency plans if necessary.

S) Participate in program and design reviews as required.

T) Supplier Assessments. (Production Readiness, Compliance, Process


U) Work with SD and SQE to re-source those items for which existing

suppliers have become problematic. May include the presentation of

different or modified designs to Design Engineering for consideration.

V) Utilize resources across SSUSA/ Safran as necessary to resolve

complex issues, and provide project management as required to ensure


W) Support all SSUSA locations with any supplier or sub-tier issue

involving but not limited to quality, deliver, lean activities &

events (internal or external) and supplier selection.

X) Assists in the disposal or sale of obsolete and inactive inventory

Y) Able to develop reports/presentations and communicate

supplier/commodity status to other SSUSA functions or external


Z) Performs other duties as assigned

5) Travel:

* ~20%, 3-5 days per month, primarily within North America. Limited

International travel as appropriate to support commodity strategy.
