Gift of Life Donor Program, the nations largest organ procurement organization, has an exceptional opportunity for a transplant surgeon to become a full time member of its organ donation team.

Reporting to the VP of Clinical Services, the Organ Recovery Surgeon is responsible for the surgical procurement and preservation of donor organs (primarily kidneys, livers and pancreata) to be used for transplantation. Gift of Life Donor Program provides recovery services for 14 transplant centers and 38 organ specific programs. The Organ Recovery Surgeon will also participate in QAPI and research activities aimed at increasing donation and improving transplant outcomes.

The qualified candidate will demonstrate support of the Gift of Life mission, provides exceptional service and achieves excellence by exhibiting the core values (Advocacy, Commitment, Compassion, Expertise/ Knowledge, Professional Integrity, Teamwork) and the associated Standards of Behavior.

- Assume on-call responsibilities as required to assure adequate coverage for donor activity. When on-call, must be available to surgically recover organs at a time set by GLDP staff and the Administrator On Call.

- Serve as an employee of the OPO to surgically recover organs for transplantation (primarily kidneys, pancreas and livers) and research in donor hospitals throughout the GLDP service area (including GLDP recovery suites). Will also recover at hospitals/recovery suites outside the OPO when an organ is offered for a patient listed at a local, GLDP transplant center.

- Maintain a working knowledge of pulsatile preservation and places kidney(s) on the pulsatile preservation machine as appropriate.

- Participate in Transplant Coordinator (TC) and Preservationist education and training.

- Support compliance with CMS, UNOS, and AOPO standards and/or other medical/legal and regulatory requirements of GLDP.

- Assume primary responsibility (when present) for managing the donor operative environment in collaboration with GLDP Transplant Coordinator.

- Actively participate in organ donor case reviews and is focused on learning and improving donation and transplantation outcomes.

- Ensure timely, complete and accurate documentation for all surgical procedures

- Exhibit and model Gift of Life Donor Programs (GLDP) organizational core values in all job functions and in all interactions both internal and external to GLDP.

- Other initiatives as may be identified from time to time.

Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications, skills and abilities:

- Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), board certified in general surgery with a current licensure, having five (5) or more years of experience in organ recovery and transplantation of kidneys, liver and pancreata.

- The ability to work effectively and communicate with a broad range of medical professionals.

- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact with all management, supervisors and staff.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
