Clerk of Works

A long-standing and successful historic buildings trust are seeking a Clerk of Works to join their team at their beautiful stately home in Derbyshire.

The Role

You will be reporting to the Head of Operations and:

* Overseeing small scale projects and maintenance works, carried out by external contractors and in-house tradesmen

* Ensuring that all works carried out are compliant with health and safety and other relevant legislations

* Assessing and monitoring works with regards to quality

* Validating the technical feasibility of design and construction plans

* Assessing progress against programme

* Monitoring and mitigating risks involved with projects (quality, environmental and safety)

* Working with others to ensure that works are procured in accordance with the Estates procurement policy and appropriate purchase orders or formal contracts are put in place

* Leading a number of smaller buildings and maintenance projects at the stately home

The Person

The successful Clerk of Works will have:

* Experience in a similar Clerk of Works role

* A construction qualification (Degree/HNC/HND)

* Have a wide understanding of the building industry (materials, trades, methods and legal requirements)

* A good understanding of CDM regulations and legal matters

* A strong attention to detail

* Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to liaise with people of all levels

* Good IT skills (Excel, Word, and ideally using ArcGIS and CAD)

The following are desirable:

* A detailed knowledge of historic building construction methods

* Experience in the maintenance and preservation of historic buildings

The Clerk of Works will benefit from:

* Salary £40,000 - £50,000 (depending on experience)

* 31 days holiday (Inclusive of bank holidays)
