Our client, an award-winning housebuilder based in Northamptonshire is seeking a Civil Design Engineer to join their team.

Role: To manage the engineering design from land appraisal through to construction issue.

Responsible for:

Budgets: Design within budget set by others and report any overspend to Engineering Manager/Senior engineer.

Scope: The role of the Technical Department in an Operating Company is to provide a practical and cost-effective technical service to the company.

This will encompass site evaluation, architectural and engineering design, the investigations of any technical problems encountered and provision of economical and viable solutions.

The technical department are involved with the product from inception to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

* Advise Land Dept on Technical viability of new sites

* Assist in the production of layouts and technical report for Land Appraisals; and required working drawings

* Prepare outline engineering schematics for Land Appraisals

* Prepare detailed road and sewer designs for competitive tender for schemes up to 450 units.

* Prepare flood risk assessments where required.

* Use PDS and AutoCAD to produce cut and fill cross sections and volumetrics for earthworks.

* Use WinDes drainage modelling software as necessary

* Produce Private drainage designs including plot levels showing where retaining walls may be require.

* Brief and commission site investigations, topographical survey and assessment reports on land acquired

* Initial negotiations/enquiries with statutory bodies and utility undertakers on environmental, drainage, highways and other engineering issues when apprising land

* Manage initial technical submissions for approval by statutory authorities (e.g. S104, S38, S278) and respond, amend drawings as required to achieve technical approval.

* Issue engineering information to Commercial, Construction and Sales departments

* Fee negotiation and appointment of consultants

* Obtain planning permissions and other statutory approvals e.g. S104 and S38 Agreements

* Answer Technical queries

* POS, S38, S104, S185 (sewer diversions) and rising main/pump station adoptions.

* Prepare design risk assessments for the designs you have completed.

* Comply with the Group’s Health, Safety and Environment Policies.

* Implement new ideas and methods and continue to seek ways of both improving contribution to the organisation’s goals and enhancing the reputation of the company.

Working Relationships:

- Build effective working relationships with both internal and external colleagues

Decision Making Authority:

* Appointment of Consultants in consultation with line manager

* Agreement of fees for consultants in line with budget

* Agreement of details with statutory authorities
