Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer on a 2 months contract with a possibility of an extension.

Purpose of the role -

To carry out a wide range of investigation and enforcement duties in respect to the full range of private rented housing sector, premises in multiple occupation providing a high quality customer focussed service to residents and elected members, resolving complaints, carrying out environmental enforcement and providing technical advice. The aim of the service is to ensure that legislation is complied with by applying best practice and meeting national and local organisational aims and objectives

Duties/Responsibilities -

Provide a high quality, customer-focused advice, enforcement and regulation service by dealing efficiently and effectively with casework across the full range private rented housing sector, premises in multiple occupation, including housing standards inspections, community nuisance and anti-social behaviour so as to achieve relevant performance targets and positive outcomes
Provide a high quality, customer-focused advice, enforcement and regulation service by dealing efficiently and effectively with casework across the full range private rented housing sector, premises in multiple occupation, including housing standards inspections, community nuisance and anti-social behaviour so as to achieve relevant performance targets and positive outcomes for residents and elected members
Implement the full range of investigation and enforcement measures in respect to the full range of private rented housing sector, premises in multiple occupation as required by management, including service of notice, providing witness statements, presenting evidence in court, preparing risk assessments, reports, schedules of defects and repair specifications.
Respond to allocated enquiries and referrals from members of the public, elected members and other council departments, inspecting, investigating, writing responses and reports and providing advice in order to meet targets and deadlines.
Progress applications received for the licensing of premises in multiple-occupation and where relevant conditions are met, issue the necessary licence within performance targets and deadlines.
Carry out risk based assessments of premises in multiple-occupation, taking appropriate enforcement actions to resolve safety/condition concerns or breeches in license conditions within performance target.

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications/Experience -

Educated to degree or diploma level in a relevant area, or equivalent and relevant operational experience.
Formally trained in investigation skills and techniques or equivalent relevant operational experience.
UK driving licence or equivalent, and the use of a suitable vehicle at all times.
Ability to undertake site visits and inspections at various locations throughout the borough.
Three or more years experience in a similar role undertaking complaint and case work related to full range of private rented housing sector, premises in multiple occupation.
A good role specific general knowledge and understanding of the key parts of relevant legislation, best practice, guidance and an appreciation of any emerging issues.
