We are currently recruiting for an M&E Shift Engineer for our site in Porton Down, Wiltshire.

Hours of Work: 4 nights x 4 days off shift pattern, 42 hrs average weekly including weekends and Bank Holidays.

Shift allowance 20% when working shifts

Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the Head of Engineering Services carry out maintenance functions. In particular the post-holder will be responsible for Electrical, Mechanical and Building maintenance services and Out of Hours monitoring and Call Out Procedures and Engineering Cover During Out of Normal Business Hours.

Principal Accountabilities:

* EMCOR Engineering point of contact for the client outside normal working hours

* Ensuring all Planned Preventative Maintenance is completed to schedule

* Conducts preventative maintenance on machines and equipment by checking for smooth operation of the same and replacing worn and defective parts

* Rectification of defects, ensuring all performance standards are met in accordance with the contract

* Carry out routine maintenance work associated with all electrical and mechanical systems

* Supervise specialist contractors and ensure all certification/ documentation is completed accordingly

* Isolate defective equipment from power supply, check visually for faults, test mechanical parts for faults, isolate the problem areas and take corrective action to repair the problem

* Liaise with Security team during silent hours to ensure that site issues are responded to in a timely manner

* Respond to requests made via the “Help Desk”/day shift team

* Carry out task related “Risk Assessments” and maintain the records

* Report any non-compliance with Environmental and Health & Safety standards

* Control of good housekeeping and good working practices

* Comply with all company procedures

* Provide assistance to third parties as and when required

* Ensure full compliance of the companies Safety Rules and apply good engineering and safety practices

* Must be willing to undertake company standard internal training workshops and work to GMP (Good Manufacturing practice), if applicable

* Responsible for allocated work orders from receipt to completion

* Provision of information on progress of allocated work orders

* Willing to work in secure and sensitive environment on an exclusively manned site

Person Specification

Time served apprenticeship or qualification to ONC Level or equivalent in either refrigeration, Electrical or Mechanical discipline

Multi-skilled background with a good understanding of steam generation and HVAC systems

A minimum of four years’ substantial operational and technical experience with demonstrated potential.

Technical expertise, qualifications or apprenticeship in a craft skill or engineering discipline would be an important pre-requisite of the role.

To have a working knowledge of the current HVCA Codes or Practice and installation

Preparation and operation of planned maintenance

Ability to work using own initiative and as part of a team

Ability to liaise and supervise contractors

To be conversant with general Safety, Health and Environmental legislation and in particular the “PUWER regulations” and risk assessments

Knowledge of key operational procedures e.g. time sheets, planned maintenance systems, Quality and Health & Safety.

Experience of positively dealing with the resolution of customer problems within specific contracts.

Demonstrated ‘hands-on’ technical expertise in a number of key operational areas.

Experience of standby power systems including prime movers and UPS (desirable)

Demonstrable skills in dealing and working closely with internal and external customers and suppliers on complex and interrelated issues on an ongoing basis

Understanding of A/C systems and controls (desirable)

Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare or processing industry and working within a GMP environment would be an advantage.

Be able to communicate effectively and have flexible approach to work patterns.

Knowledge of building fabric repairs (desirable)

First Aid Trained (desirable)

To work reasonable overtime as and when required.
