Position: Senior Civil Design Engineer 
Location: Colchester, Essex 
Job type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 37 hours per week

About the role: 

Due to expansion, we have a vacancy for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join our Professional Services team based in Colchester. The main purpose of the role is to provide civil design solutions for electrical substations ranging from 11kV to 400kV across the UK for a number of Distribution Network Operators (DNO's) and private clients, together with additional civil design duties for the group and non-electrical based clients. 


- Produce the design of civil engineering elements of projects, preparation of detailed CAD drawings and specifications for tender and construction purposes. 
- Work in close liaison with the structural engineers, quantity surveyors, clerk of works and CAD technicians. 
- Assist the civil project managers in management of civil engineering contractors during the construction phase of projects. 
- Use site surveys, existing plans, drawings, Codes of Practice, Technical Specifications and technical knowledge to prepare designs, designers risk assessments and construction drawings for projects. 
- Manage the individual project design programme, working with the Design Manager and Technical Director. 
- Compile “as built” drawings and H&S Files for civil engineering elements of projects. 
- Preparation of Feasibility Studies for projects as required. 
- Identify and inform Freedom Directors of commercial opportunities as appropriate. 
- Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures of Freedom Professional Services and its customers. 
- Maintain own competence in accordance with current best practice, legislative changes and customer requirements. 
- Maintain CPD requirements of relevant Institutions or Professional Bodies. 

About you: 

- Substantial experience of civil engineering design on construction projects, including roads and drainage. 
- Knowledge and experience of AutoCad & Microsoft Office suite. 
- A degree / HNC in Civil Engineering or other relevant subject. 
- Experience of working on projects in the electricity industries would be an advantage. 
- Knowledge and experience of Autodesk REVIT is desirable. 
- A full driving license is essential.
