My client are currently looking to recruit an Estimator to undertake responsibility for pricing and bidding works as part of our Commercial team.

The successful candidate will need to be able to assemble and present bids for settlement by the leadership team, by leading their defined bids and steering key stakeholders to ensure a competitive, innovative bid, capable of delivering the requisite overhead and profit.

The postholder will manage the bid and settlement process for those whom they have both direct and indirect responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

* To be able to price bids from first principles- including but not limited to: Project and Capital works- these will generally be worth between £0.2m and £3.0m. Works could involve refurbishment and new build however on occasions Response maintenance, Voids and Planned works may also be an option

* Pricing methodology will include Specification and Drawings, Schedule of Quantities, SOR adjustments, etc

* The candidate will be familiar with subcontractor package pricing together with pricing of direct labour

* Conducting site visits to gain a full understanding of the risks and opportunities to assist in the pricing the bid and articulating the methodology during settlements

* Meeting supply chain to obtain the best pricing and value bids

* To build the full bid including: Preliminaries, Direct Labour, Subcontractors, Material and Plant supply and the addition of overheads and profit

* Have full ownership and responsibility for the end to end bidding process on an opportunity from receipt of the Invitation to Tender through to bid mobilisation

* To lead the bidding process in winning the bid. Working closely with stakeholders such as Bid Leads, Business Development, Operations, Commercial and support functions such as HR, IT, Corporate Responsibility, Innovation, Marketing, etc

* To develop competitive, innovative and profitable tenders for authorisation and submission to Head of Bid Management

* To manage the design of the solution(s), the estimate the costs and plan the implementation of projects to meet or exceed customers’ requirements

* To recognise contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and to find opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit

* To engage with the commercial team and assess the commercial aspects of each opportunity and develop a credible commercial strategy for delivery

* To support the delivery of the pipeline of contracts safely, on time, and to the required quality while maximising gross profit and customers' satisfaction

* Determine contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and to find opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit

* Development of margin bridges where necessary in close cooperation with the commercial team

* Knowledge of TUPE and direct labour is preferable

* Ability to find ‘the edge’ within a bid

* Obtain the best market quotations to substantiate the prime cost and deliver accurate prime cost submissions at the adjudication meeting in a professional and logical manner

* Lead tender settlement meetings and present net tender and commercial analysis

* Undertake project debrief and contract handover review meetings

* Benchmarking of key operational ratios and material costs

Key Skills and Qualifications:

* Qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar function

* Previous experience of Planned Maintenance contracts, Capital Construction Projects or similar

* Strong commercial awareness and excellent analytical skills

* Excellent organisational skills and able to present information in a logical manner

* Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure

* Able to work as an individual and work co-operatively as part of a team

* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

* Excellent IT skills, preferably Excel, Word, PowerPoint and estimating software
