Our client is seeking a Legal Assistant on the initial 2 month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Working Hours-

37 hours per week

Monday - Friday

Pay Rate-

£11.86 p/h

Job Purpose-

- To provide clear and effective legal advice and representation to all Council Departments in relation to GDPR, The Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations.

- To undertake all necessary investigations, collation of evidence, research and preparatory works to provide advice and to provide support and guidance (both independently and as part of a team) and to liaise with members of the public in relation to their requests.

Duties and Responsibilities-

- Provide legal advice and assistance to the Council in connection with all aspects of information law.

- Effective drafting of legal documents and associated correspondence, as well as letters and emails to members of the public to a high standard.

- Ability to escalate high profile matters and assist in formation of risk management strategies.

- Evaluate and instruct external service providers, including appointing and briefing Counsel as required.

- Investigate cases, undertaking any necessary research, collate and present evidence and prepare findings.

- Prepare and draft Pleadings and Statements of Case, Witness statements and all other necessary Court documentation.

- Attend meetings at Officer Level to provide legal and procedural advice as required.

- Have and maintain a thorough appreciation of policies, procedures, financial regulations, Court Rules and Legislation relevant to the work of the section.

- Comply with time recording systems and such work records as necessary to assist the section in maintaining appropriate statistics and management information.

Skills and Experience-

- Experience in identifying essential evidence, collating the same, obtaining and using witness statement and redacting where appropriate to ensure compliance with legal obligations.

- Producing written work, including the ability to draft letters to members of the public, to a high standard.

- The ability to give clear, concise and accurate legal advice both verbally and in writing

- A high level of commitment, communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to undertake effective research, coherently present findings and effectively present persuasive argument both verbally and in writing

- Knowledge of current and proposed legislation relating to information law.

- Knowledge of Local Government and its structure

- The ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure

- The ability to appropriately prioritise a caseload and to meet deadlines

- The ability to work on your own initiative, to identify strategies and to resolve difficulties to meet specified outcomes

- The ability to work effectively as part of a team

- The ability to travel freely between sites in the County and to attend meetings across the County..

- Have appropriate and relevant legal experience and qualifications e.g. 'A' Level, BTEC/NVQ, CILEx, LLB
