Clinical Therapy Assistant (Technical Instructor)

Due to expansion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Therapy Assistant (Technical Instructor) in our wheelchair services in Leicester. This is a full time position and you will be supporting the clinical team to provide technical support to service users whilst ensuring delivery of a seamless, high quality service for our patients within the district.

Key elements of this rewarding job role include:

· Work under supervision and to be responsible for planning and organising own allocated caseload, This includes:

- Organising the necessary paperwork and information gathering from notes prior to intervention.

- Liaise with service users, carers and other professionals prior to intervention.

- Interventions may take place at the wheelchair service clinic, service users home or workplace, hospital, day centre or school.

- Organising the necessary equipment and tools required for intervention.

- Identify social and environmental issues that may impact on the final equipment recommendations.

· To be responsible for maintaining comprehensive contemporaneous clinical records both manual and electronic ensuring compliance with the agreed record keeping systems. Liaise with the clinical team regarding the outcome of the intervention.

· Process and arrange delivery of direct issue wheelchairs, pressure cushions and accessories prescribed by accredited / recognised prescribers.

· To sensitively discuss contentious outcomes with the service user, carers, and relatives.

· Ensure timely handover and setup of prescribed equipment upon receipt from suppliers or stock (where possible) including:

· Lone working in varied environments including people’s homes, hospital settings and residential / nursing homes

· Safeguard at all times the children, young people and vulnerable adults with whom the service comes into contact, through the strict adherence to Opcare safeguarding procedures and guidelines.

· Carry out interventions which physically involve assisting patients to stand and walk, kneeling, squatting, crouching, bending to low furniture, twisting, maintaining static/awkward postures for short periods of time. Lifting, carrying and adjusting wheelchairs several times a day on a daily basis.

Person specification: At least 2 years’ experience in the physical field working with patients with long-term and deteriorating medical conditions at band 2 and GCSE Maths & English at Grade C or above is essential
